Remaining Moves:

The Jazz have 15 players under contract for the upcoming season. As it stands, their roster is complete for the upcoming season. One thing to watch is Royce O’Neale, as his $1.38M becomes fully guaranteed if not waived before 1/10/19.

Salary Cap Status:

The Jazz currently have 15 players under contract for 2018-2019. They are on the books for $115.7M in salaries in 2018-2019. That puts them $13.9M above the cap, $8.0M below the luxury tax, and $14.1M below the tax apron. They will not be paying any luxury tax penalties as the roster stands.

The Jazz used part of their $8.64M Non-Taxpayer MLE to sign Georges Niang and have $7,128,399 remaining for the season. They also have access to their $3.382M Bi-Annual Exception. In addition, they have a trade exception of $2.39M (Hood – expires 2/8/19) and $3.71M (Johnson – expires 2/8/19).

Training Camp Status:

Every NBA team can carry up to 5 additional players on their roster for offseason training camp, bringing the roster total up to 20. The Jazz currently have 15 NBA roster players, 2 Two-Way players, and 2 summer/training camp deals signed. That leaves them with one remaining spot for training camp.

G Jairus Lyles and F/C Isaac Haas are both on training camp deals.

The Jazz are targeting G Stanton Kidd for the final spot in training camp, though they are working to free him of his contract with the Turkish team Darussafaka. Kidd posted 9.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg, and 1.0 spg on 56% FG in 22.0 mpg during his 4 games with Utah during 2018 Summer Leauge.

Two-Ways:

G Naz Mitrou-Long will be joining the Jazz as the first Two-Way contract after a successful season with the Salt Lake City Stars. F Tyler Cavanaugh will fill the second Two-Way contract after being waived by Atlanta.

Two-Way contract salaries do not count against the cap and luxury tax in-season.

2019 Draft Notes:

The Jazz have the following picks for 2019:

UTA 1st Round Pick
UTA 2nd Round Pick

The Jazz own both of their picks for the 2019 NBA Draft.

The Utah Jazz is probably the dark horse of the western conference. Their core players are actually pretty good on paper. I mean, a lineup with Ricky Rubio, Donovan Mitchell, Jay Crowder, Derick Favors, and Rudy Gobert is just absurd. Their back court has both great shooting and play making. Their back court is a much more versatile with Derrick Favors being able to shoot the three consistently. Need I mention the reigning defense player of the year, Rudy Gobert?
